What is the sun?

The sun is a star. The sun is 150 million km from the earth, which makes it the closest star to us. All heat on the earth is derived from the sun’s energy. The sun is 109 times the size of the earth. Sunlight takes eight minutes to reach the earth.

Where does the heat come from?

The sun’s mass creates an enormous amount of pressure on the sun’s core. This pressure creates a source of heat within the sun. The inward pressure creates space for the heat to escape to the outside.

Origin and future of the sun

The sun is 4.5 billion years old and arose out of a cloud of dust and gas. According to the life cycle of a star, the sun will disappear in another 5 billion years.
