The sun as a source of energy

The sun as a source of energy

The sun provides direct energy in two forms: light and heat. In short, the energy is created by the enormous amount of pressure exerted on the sun’s core. These two forms of energy, along with the secondary forms of energy, like wind, the tides, hydropower and biomass, make up 99.9% of the energy on the earth.

The atmosphere and magnetosphere shield the earth from most of the sun’s harmful rays. The energy that reaches us, however, is still 9000 times greater than the needs of all of the earth’s inhabitants combined.
