Selling power back to the grid

In the Netherlands, the Electricity Act states that households shall receive payment for power supplied to the grid. This is called a Feed-in Tariff (FiT). This payment plan exists in addition to the SDE (Dutch Sustainable Energy Production Stimulus Plan), and still applies to you even if you have received subsidies. Under the plan, the first 3000 kWh supplied by a household are settled against their consumption. Let’s say you supplied 600 kWh back to the grid and that you consumed 2700 kWh: you’d end up paying for 2100 kWh. This would require a meter that can record both the power supplied to the grid and the power consumed. If you do not have a meter that can record both measurements, you can request a replacement meter from your power company. In this case, you would in fact have to pay for the meter.
